Charlotte's Web, and the ending I wasn't ready for at 26
On Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
I bought this to give to my niece and then read it myself on the rickshaw home. Bad idea. I was crying over a spider on Mirpur Road.
It is such a calm little book. It never talks down to children about death and it doesn't dress it up either. Charlotte just does her work and then she's gone, and the barn carries on. My niece, for the record, was completely fine. She wanted to know more about the rat.
