The Kite Runner wrecked me on a Tuesday afternoon
On The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Don't read this at work on your lunch break. That's my only advice.
I know some people find the second half too neat, and I understand that. Coincidences pile up. But the first half, the two boys and the kites and the thing that happens in the alley, is some of the most painful writing I've read about being a coward when you're a child. I lent my copy to my cousin and she returned it without saying anything, just nodded at me.
