To Kill a Mockingbird through a child's eyes

On To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

What I hadn't realised before reading it is how funny it is. Scout is a hilarious narrator. For a long time the book is just summer and neighbours and a scary house down the road, and that's what makes the trial land so hard when it comes.

People do fairly criticise how it treats its Black characters, who mostly exist so that white people can learn something. Keep that in mind. I still think the scene with the mob outside the jail is one of the best in any novel I've read.
