The Great Gatsby is so much shorter and sadder than the movies

On The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The films are all parties and champagne, so that's what I expected. The book is under 200 pages, and most of what stays with you is Nick being tired and disgusted by rich people, and a man staring at a green light across the water.

Daisy gets blamed a lot, and I used to blame her too. This time I noticed how little anyone in the book actually listens to her. The last page is as good as people say. I read it three times on the roof one evening in Rajshahi.
