Educated is hard to believe, and hard to put down
On Educated by Tara Westover
A girl in rural Idaho, who never went to school, ends up with a PhD from Cambridge. It sounds inspiring, and it is, but mostly it's upsetting. The injuries alone, from the scrapyard and the car crashes, are hard to read, with no doctor ever called.
What I admire is how carefully she treats her own memory. She adds footnotes where her family remembers things differently. I've taught for years, and I recommended it to every teacher I know.
