I reread Pride and Prejudice every few years and it keeps changing on me
On Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The first time I read this I was sixteen and I thought it was a love story. At twenty-five it was a book about money. Now I mostly read it for Mr Bennet, who I used to find hilarious and now find a bit sad. He jokes his way out of every problem his family has.
Austen is meaner than people remember, and that's the fun of it. If you tried it in school and hated it, give it another go. You don't need to like Darcy. I'm still not sure I do.
