Brave New World felt more familiar than 1984
On Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Orwell's future scares you with a boot. Huxley's is much more comfortable. Everyone's happy, everyone's busy, and there's a pill for the rest. I read it after a weekend when I'd watched about thirty hours of nonsense on my phone, and that didn't feel great.
The characters are a bit flat and the savage storyline gets preachy. But for an idea novel written in 1932, the idea hits a little too close. Worth reading alongside 1984 and arguing about which one got it right.
