What I got from Gitanjali without being a poetry person
On Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore
I don't read much poetry. I usually feel like I'm being tested. But I keep this one by my bed and read one poem when I can't sleep, and I don't try to work it out.
I grew up with the Bangla in songs, so the English feels a little far away to me. If you can read the original, do. If you can't, the English is still lovely and quiet. It's the only book I own that I've never read from start to finish and don't plan to.
